I captured all of the Super Famicom sprites from theWizardry I-II-III: Story of Lylgamyn compilation game. The creatures are listed in alphabetical order and have been tripled in size for easier viewing (i.e., something that was 32 pixels tall in the game is 96 pixels tall here.) All copyrighted images, names, etc. seen on this web page belong to Sir-Tech Software, not to me. These sprites are presented for informational/archival purposes only.
I obtained most of the statistical data for the monsters from this Japanese Wizardry web site. Special thanks to "Ebe", from the Bogleech Forums for bringing said site to my attention.

Unidentified Monsters When you first encounter enemies in battle in Wizardry, they are often unidentified and represented by one of the generic sprites shown below (i.e., the Moat Monster creature will be shown as a Giant Serpent at first.) To reveal what they really are, you either have to fight them for a while until your party members figure out what they're up against (which is risky for obvious reasons) or use the Level 3 Priest spell "Latumapic" (if your Cleric/Priest, Wizard/Bishop, or Lord has learned it), which allows you to always know the true identity of your opponents. | |

You'll find Abdul in several locations throughout the maze. He usually offers rare items or instant escape from the dungeon via his ethereal "taxi" service at "bargain" prices. If he's feeling particularly charitable, Abdul might even give you some free advice. | This pious(?) fellow will offer to barter your soul(!) for what's inside his box if you can find him on Level 3. That must just be his sick sense of humor though, as the monk will simply exchange a Broad Sword for his Gold Medallion if you agree (and you should.) Throw said disc into a special pool on the same level to obtain the Holy Water story item, which will allow you to access the ladder that leads upwards to Level 5. |

This nameless priestess will not allow you through a particular door, on Level 2, that she's guarding until you present the proper credentials in the form of the Earth Staff. That item is located nearby, although you'll have to do battle with some nasty Fiends to gain entry into the room where it's stored. | Give the Neutral Crystal to the correct statue and you'll get the Orb of Earithin in return, which is the ultimate item necessary to complete the game. Be careful--choose the wrong statue and you'll either have to fight a tough monster or, much worse, get a fake, cursed Orb of Mhuuzfes instead (Piety -1 and AC 20 just from holding it.) |
Appendix A: Encounter Locations
The following lists indicate where in the dungeon that you can typically encounter a given opponent. Note that Levels 2 and 4 can only be accessed by a party with a Good alignment and Levels 3 and 5 only by a group with an Evil alignment (you'll be teleported back to town if you try to enter with the incorrect disposition.) Level 1 can be freely traveled by adventurers with any life philosophy. Level 6 can only be entered by a Non-Neutral party, and the invincible dragoness L'kbreth will annihilate you in battle if you don't have the Neutral Crystal in your possession when you meet her (combine the Crystals of Good and Evil together, using a non-neutral character, to create it.) | ||
