Status effects
This article or section lacks enough Experience Points to have a rank. You can help by sending it to a dungeon to fight some battles so it can gain its first ranks. |
A status effects, ailments, or simply status (状態, Jotai), refers to the presence of a playable character sustained by an abnormal condition during battle under certain circumstances that interferes with their ability to perform in combat. Typically inflicted by a certain weapons, spells, traps, or monsters, or by hazards in a dungeon tile itself.

A unit is unable to act until a turn passes. Any attack received will wake them up but deal increased damage.
In Wizardry Variants Daphne, sleep can be cured by the priest spell Dialko despite it's originally meant for curing paralysis in other games.
Fear
In Wizardry Variants Daphne, Fear causes a unit loses 1 MP on their turn and per tile traversed in exploration. It can be cured via Reilis spell or Calmative item.
Blind
Spell-Binding
Only in Wizardry Variants Daphne, Spell-Binding renders the afflicted unit unable to use spells except using a scroll or recovery item. It can be cured by the divine spell Kusfis.
Skill-Binding
Only in Wizardry Variants Daphne, like Spell-Binding that can also be cured by the divine spell Kusfis, Skill-Binding renders the afflicted unit unable to use skills instead.
Disease
Nausea
Stun
In Wizardry Variants Daphne, stun can be cured by the divine spell Dialko despite it's originally meant for curing paralysis in other games.
Paralysis
A unit can be paralyzed in a number of different ways such as setting off a certain traps (e.g. Stunner) from a treasure chest, getting hit by a monsters with the paralyze ability. A character who is paralyzed cannot act in any way--no fighting, casting spells, identifying, or using items.
Paralysis can be cured, however, by having another party member cast the priest spell Dialko or Madi on the affected character. It can also be cured by helping the affected character at the Temple of Cant for a price. In the earlier games, the cost to cure a paralyzed character is 100 gold per level.
When a character is paralyzed at the end of a battle (whether he was paralyzed during the battle or before it), he is not included in the distribution of experience points or treasure. If the entire party is stoned, the game will automatically lead to the death screen or results in an instant game over.
In Wizardry Variants Daphne, fear causes a unit loses 1 SP on their turn and per tile traversed in exploration. It can be cured by the divine spell Diador or Invigorating Draught item.
Poison
- For the poison damage in Wizardry Variants Daphne, see Critical Poison.
A character can be poisoned in a number of ways, such as the easiest way is to set off a certain traps (e.g. Poison Needle) on a chest, getting hit by a monsters with the poison ability. Chests in deeper levels can also have Gas Bomb traps which have a good chance of poisoning every member of the party if they are set off.
When a character is poisoned, their hit points diminish gradually until he is cured or leaves the maze. Inside the maze, the poison's effect does not wear off after some time. However, while poisoned, the character can still fight, cast spells, identify items, be healed, and everything else he could otherwise do while OK.
Poison can be cured by the priest spells Latumofis and Madi, or by using certain items such as Antidote.

A character can be turned to stone (aka stoned or petrified) in a couple of different ways such as getting hit by a monsters the stone ability and setting off certain traps. A character who is stoned cannot act in any way--no fighting, casting spells, identifying, or using items.
Stoned status can only be cured by having another party member cast Madi or similar spell on the affected character or by helping them at the Temple of Cant. The cost to cure such a rocky character is 200 gold per level.
When a character is stoned at the end of a battle (whether he was petrified during the battle or before it), he is not included in the distribution of experience points or treasure. This is the worst thing that can happen to a character in the early Wizardry games of the Llylgamyn Saga. If a character's status says "Ashes", he is not only dead, but his body has been incinerated. While a character with a "Dead" status can be resurrected by casting the "Di" spell, or by letting the priests of the Temple of Cant do the job, only divine intervention can raise a character from the ashes. This can be achieved by the "Kadorto" spell or, the Temple of Cant. Raising a character from the ashes is more expensive than ordinary resurrection. Success, however, will provide the character with full hit points. Failure results in the character being "Lost" Forever - his file will be erased.
Characters are turned to Ashes if subjected to a failed resurrection attempt, if they are hit with an Electric Bolt trap from a chest, or hit by an "unavoidable" trap such as the one on Level 3 of the Maze. I believe holding the Lightning Rod will negate these "unavoidable" traps, this will be tested soon.
Most likely, every player will at one point or another, scream at the Temple of Cant after paying for a failed resurrection AND a failed raising from ashes. The success of both raising and resurrecting from Ashes is affected by a character's luck stat, meaning that freshly class changed characters are most likely to be "Lost" Forever.
