The getting started is Wizardry Wiki's guides on how to creating pages, editing, linking, and styling for editors.

Basics

  1. Because the wiki is hosted in wiki.gg and just like the other wiki, you'll have to register here first.
  2. Every articles must be written in-universe, formal and encyclopedic manner. Avoid using informal or casual speech, exaggeration or dramatization, word contractions, and should be no mentions of "the player" and "you". Learn more here.
  3. Games including its spin-offs are usually written in abbreviations or their initialisms (i.e. The abbreviation of PGMO refers to the Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord, the first game in the franchise and the main series. The official Wizardry Portal also provides conjectural titles for Japanese only games.
  4. The wiki only documents officially translated canon in the franchise even if any brought in west or Japan-only.
  5. Every coverage must stay on-topic per accordance on Coverage policy.
  6. All files including images and screenshots onto the wiki must be appropriately named and licensed per accordance in Help:Images and Help:Screenshot guidelines.
  7. When in doubt if a subject coverage is under dispute, it must be brought up in the article's discussion page or alternatively on Discord to discuss with the community and come to a consensus. When commenting, make sure add ~~~~ or click signature-like icon above editor at the end. This automatically generates username and a timestamp.
  8. When in doubt, please refer to Help page navigation below.

How to edit

Once you have registered for an account on the wiki, you are free to edit most pages, with the exception of those that are protected (these are locked pages that non-administrators cannot edit, often because they are crucial to the wiki's structuring, and others to prevent vandalism).

PC

To edit a page on PC, click on the "Edit" tab in the page's top-right corner. You can also edit an individual section by clicking on "Edit" right next to it. You will then be taken to the wiki's editor with all of the page's current formatting code. Before saving any changes, it is highly recommended to click on "Show preview" to see a preview of how the page will look. Doing so can help pick up on any formatting mistakes or anything else amiss. Additionally, you can also give a short explanation for your changes in the editor's Summary bar. Once you are confident with your changes, click on "Save changes" to apply to them to the page. If your edit is small, you can also optionally tick the "This is a minor edit" box to indicate it as such.

In summary,

  1. Click on "Edit" in the top-right corner and make your changes in the editor.
  2. Provide a short summary in the summary bar for your changes.
  3. Click on "Show preview" before saving to see how the page will look and catch any errors.
  4. Click "Save changes" once you are confident with your edits.

Mobile

To edit a page on mobile, tap on "More" then "Create" at the top of the article. You can also edit an individual section by tapping "Edit" into it. From there you will be taken to the wiki's editor with all of the page's current formatting. Due to the issues regarding with visual editor in Wizardry Wiki, it is not available at the moment and not recommended; because it can potentially break a page's delicate formatting while the source editor retains its code.

Once you have made your changes, be sure to tap on "Show preview" or "Show changes" to carefully look over the page's preview. Doing so can help pick up on any formatting mistakes or anything else amiss. Once you are confident with your changes, click on "Save" to apply them to the page.

In summary,

  1. Tap "Create" or "Edit" at the top of the page and make your changes in the editor.
  2. Tap on "Show preview" or "Show changes" once you made your changes to see a preview of the page.
  3. Provide a short summary in the summary field for your changes.
  4. Tap "Save page" once you are confident with your edits.

For users on mobile who prefer editing on desktop, you can switch to the wiki's desktop depends on your browser. You can switch back viceversa as well.

Wiki Codes

Text

The markup language that the MediaWiki software uses is called wikitext, also known as wikicode. This is used to format how pages look and function. Some basic wikitext code includes:

Output Code Notes
Bold '''Bold''' <b></b> also works, but is preferred.
Italic ''Italic'' <i></i> also works, but is preferred.
Underline <u>Underline</u>
Strikethrough <s>Strikethrough</s>
Big <big>Big</big>
Small <s>Small</s>
:Indented text :Indented text Adding another : further indents the text. Each indent must be on its own line break to work.

Indenting is usually used when responding to a talk page's discussion.

Superscript or subscript Superscript or subscript
Centered
<center>Centered</center> Generally only used for templates.
<!-- Comment viewable only in editor --> N/A This adds a comment that is only visible in the editor and not on the saved page; this can be used to leave notes to other contributors.

Page creation

Before creating any articles or pages, consult these steps:

  1. Does the page related to the franchise? A page about a character or terminology from Wizardry universe, for example, would be acceptable; but a page about a subject outside of it, such as Jagged Alliance game or character is not, unless otherwise noted according to Coverage policy § Non-Wizardry franchise.
  2. Make sure the page does not yet already exist on the wiki. Use the wiki's search function to check if there is already a page, including any alternate names or spellings of that subject (i.e. "Wizardry Empire: Princess of the Ancient" is an existing article, whereas "Wizardry empire: princess of the ancient" counts as different article and may be a source of possible confusion in creating an article). If a subject has another name or spelling, a redirect may be needed instead (i.e. "Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land" is a localized title of "BUSIN: Wizardry Alternative").
  3. While it is not necessary to write an entire full page upon creation, it is good practice to at least add some content before saving it. Creating empty pages purely to fill a gap as a placeholder is discouraged. Adding something even as simple as a short descriptor is adequate enough; a page can be expanded overtime with editors' contributions. Pages that have little content should also have Template:Stub or Template:WIP added to their header space at the very top or below header.
