Wizardry III: Legacy of Llylgamyn is the third game in the main series for home computers and consoles, first released on Apple II in 1983 published by Sir-Tech. Adventurers must find the fabled Orb of Earithin to prevent the destruction of the world.
Plot
The game takes place a generation after the events of Wizardry II: The Knight of Diamonds. The world has recently been subjected to a series of natural disasters. The colony of Arbithea, for example, was destroyed. The wisest men of the kingdom have agreed that a group of heroes should seek the mystical Orb of Earithin, which was taken by the great dragon L'kbreth. The orb should then be used to reveal the source of the danger.
Therefore, it is the characters' task to enter L'kbreth's mountain lair and win the Orb of Earithin from her.
Gameplay
The original computer releases are similar to Wizardry II: The Knight of Diamonds in that the player must bring in characters from either of the previous scenarios. These characters are used as the ancestors of the characters the player will use, with them undergoing a rite of passage wherein they are reset to level 1 and undergo assorted adjustments to their statistics based on the character of whom they are a descendant. Additionally the game engine itself underwent a revision, with a new interface added, several spells adjusted and underlying mechanics tweaked.[1] Similarly to Wizardry II: The Knight of Diamonds, the console ports removed this requirement for existing characters, although no rebalancing was required as the dungeon was already designed with characters starting at level 1 in mind.
The game otherwise plays the same as the previous two scenarios, although there are several levels that can only be entered by characters of good or evil alignment, necessitating the use of multiple parties or changing the alignment of characters in-game via how they choose to handle encounters with friendly enemies. This will allow the party to collect both the crystals of good and evil, which are required to complete the final challenges on the sixth level of the maze.
