Wizardry: Llylgamyn Saga is a compilation game and the first 3D version of the first three games in the main series, released in 1998, developed by Soliton and published by Locus.
Gameplay
Llylgamyn Saga is essentially an updated version of the first trilogy with updated graphics, visuals, and quality-of-life mechanics, while the rest of the aspect mostly the same as the original old computer version, specifically based upon the PC-88 port.
Notable new features compared to the original
- Updated dungeon graphics. The wireframe layout is still included as toggleable option.
- New monsters sprites drawn by Jun Suemi, while the original taken directly from PC-88 port included as toggleable option.
- Free automap feature that can be pressed on PlayStation R2 or Saturn R trigger button (default) at anytime. Dumapic and Malor is the exemption to this feature.
Comparisons between ports
- The Soliton logo uses FMV in PlayStation port, while Saturn uses its still logo instead.
- The console ports uses 3D rendered dungeon graphics, albeit the Windows port uses prerendered instead.
- The PlayStation port has smoother gameplay albeit slower, while Saturn port has faster gameplay albeit less effects.
- While the console ports interface is identical to each other, the Windows port is akin from the old Macintosh version instead.
- The Saturn port adds an exclusive original bonus dungeon which is absent in the other ports.
- The PlayStation port save data is compatible with New Age of Llylgamyn which characters from previous can be transferred, Saturn port is the exemption due to lack of the feature.
